So Blessed...
On wednesday, I'll be working at Astra Philippines, Inc.
A bit of a background. For a quite some time now, I've wanted to work in Astra. One reason is that I like their work environment. Second, I love that I will have a chance to work in Japan which is one place that I sooooooo want to go to (I've been quite obsessed to see sakura blossoms falling).
I didn't know if I would be hired by them. I took their exam on the last week of June. By the last week of July I was offered a contract to work in SC Johnson and still I haven't heard from Astra. So I thought may be they weren't interested in me. By the middle of August they contacted me asking for an interview. But alas, my contract with SC Johnson was until September 26 (it would be extended until October 21). I contacted them around first week of October saying I was still interested in joining their company. They interviewed me on October 6. They said they would contact me for feedback within the week. Friday passed and still no word (I was feeling stressed and queasy by then). They contacted me the week after, setting up another interview on October 20. Thoughts swirled in my mind, would this be another interview or an offer. When I entered the interview room, I saw the contract on the table (it was as if a great burden was lifted from me). =) Syempre, di ko pinahalata na ecstatic ako. Hehehe.
I thank God for His countless blessings on me (most of which I don't deserve).
I thank my friends who prayed for me in my application and interview in Astra (you know who you are). =)
I thank my friends who were with me every step of the way (you know who you are). =)
I thank everyone who in their own way contributed to who I am now. =)

How to Endear Yourself to a Girl's Heart
(Disclaimer: Not everything in this list applies. Results may vary. =P)
Why did I decide to write something like this? I've been doing hardcore programming for 5 straight days and my head's clogged with algorithms and computer logic. =P This is my release. =)
1. Patience. This is the most essential thing that you should have. =)
a. A girl normally takes 1-1.5 hours in preparing herself, this is a fact. She wants to look pretty when she's with you. You should compliment her looks. =)
b. When she takes you shopping, you should know that you will be walking all throughout the mall and she will come back to the same store several times and look at the same item. She does this because she wants to make sure that it is what she really wants. When she finally buys the item, tell her that it looks good on her. =)
c. There will be times when she will be late whether because of work or something unexpected came up. Never ever complain about it. Think of it this way the more you wait, the more you want to see her. =)
2. Punctuality. You should always arrive 15 minutes before your appointed time. When she asks you if you've been waiting long, always say that you just arrived. You never know if she saw you waiting for her, telling her that you just arrived will let her know that you don't mind waiting because you want to be with her. =)
3. Do something unexpected.
a. Find out what her favorite cartoon character is. Surprise her with a gift featuring that character. =)
b. Give her flowers out of the blue. Whether you're picking her up, visiting her at her house, going malling with her or meeting her for lunch or dinner. It shows her that she is special to you. =)
c. Give her a poem. If you're not that great with poetry, write her a letter telling her how much she means to you. I know this is a bit old-fashioned, but it shows how sincere you are. =)
d. If she has a favorite basketball team and they have a game and it so happens that she will be unable to watch it, write the game play-by-play down and give it to her the following day. It might take a bit of effort but it is worth it. =)
e. Suprise her with tickets of her favorite band, singer, basketball team or theater show. =)
f. On her birthday, surprise her with a video of greetings from friends that she hadn't seen for a long time. You might need to prepare this several months ahead and it will be a tiring endeavor. But it will be so much worth it when you see her reaction. =)
g. Cook or bake something for her. Food is also the way to a woman's heart. =)
h. Find out when the release of her favorite author's next book is. Reserve a copy and give it to her on the release date.
i. Ask her to watch a movie that she wants to watch but you don't. =)
4. Compliment her.
a. When she gets a haircut or wear new clothes, you should notice it and tell her she looks great. =)
b. Always tell her that she's pretty and you're lucky to have her every time you meet. =)
5. Listen.
a. Whether she wants to let out steam because of a bad day at work or she's depressed because something did go the way she wanted or she's ecstatic about an upcoming movie or she just wants to tell you about something, sincerely listen to every word she says and tell her your honest opinion. =)
b. Listen with your senses or simply be sensitive about her actions. You should know with the slightest of her gestures whether she's happy, sad or angry. =)
6. Be True. This means that if you do anything from nos. 1-5, mean it. It always works out when you show your true self to her and not create a facade just to get her to like you. =)

Lunch with Friends Set 8 / Advance Happy B-day (September 7, 2008)
merienda with celene @ red ribbon commonwealth. we had carbonara and smores cake. the cake was heavenly. =) i know it's under the lunch set album eventhough it's merienda, but i had breakfast at 12nn so technically it was still lunch for me. hahahaha. =P celene is a person that truly cares while listening to others life stories. =) that's why i'm really glad we became close friends. =) we had merienda so i could give my gift to her, since i was unavailable next weekend because she and my dad share the same birthday. dali nga ng gusto niyang gift e. rambutan daw. sakto since we had 2 rambutan trees at home so we had a surplus of rambutan. =) that was gift 1, gift 2 was a necklace with a butterfly pendant. =) advance happy birthday celene!!!! =)

Dinner with Friends Set 2 / Purplish Bit-Byte Getaway 2 (August 27, 2008)
dinner with mshel at pasto in paseo center. finally natuloy rin. =) mshel was my byte when i applied sa cursor for the 2nd time. like me, she also wants to write book. =) it's been a long time since we've swapped stories of love and life, so it was nice that we were able to do so again. =)
* for those who might ask (kung meron man), hindi kami nag-usap na mag-purple pareho. super coincidence lang (maski na parehong shade ng purple ang suot namin). =P

A DROP IN THE OCEAN (FLASH FROM THE PAST)
* note: this is a 2-part poem pero i have only finished the 1st part. both are stand alone so you can read this now. i still haven't started the next one. =)
“Meet me tomorrow at 6pm by the sakura tree. I have a surprise for you”
“Really? What is it? Can’t you give it me now? At least give me a clue”
“Calm down. You’ll find out tomorrow. You’ll just have to wait till then”
“Hmmph…If this turns out to be one of your pranks, I’ll never speak to you again”
They lived in the same neighborhood and have been friends since they were six
They were inseparable; especially when it came to playing tricks
They were very close friends; they were content with what they had
That changed today; the falling sakura marked a day both happy and sad
“Ok, I’m here. What the surprise? Don’t keep me waiting“
“Close your eyes first, hold out your hands and no peeking”
“Here it is. I hope with this you’ll realize how much you mean to me”
“<sob> I’ll treasure this forever. <sob> I’ll wear it always so everyone will see”
He gave her an orb-shaped pendant whose color was deep purple (her favorite by the way)
So that he could buy it, for two weeks straight he walked to school every single day
He found it in a small antique shop located in a little known street corner.
The moment he saw it, he knew without a doubt that it was perfect for her.
“There’s more to it. You’ll love it. Try holding it up to the light”
“Oh my, is it really moving? It looks like it’s in flight”
“Thank you so much. <sob> I don’t think I deserve such a perfect present”
“Does love ever need a reason? Cause I’m fueled by it at this very moment”
When the pendant was held to the light a butterfly can be seen floating inside
She loved butterflies because they were free to soar and glide
He decided he would tell her his feelings today whether or not she felt the same
His gift would show that he was serious; that she was his heart’s aim
“I love you too. I want to be by your side now and forever”
“Let’s make a promise then to always be there for each other”
“We’ll tell all our friends the good news tomorrow. I know they’ll all be happy and excited”
“Till tomorrow then. I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep. My emotions still haven’t subsided”
When she got home her parents were at the door with all their things packed
Her dad told her they had to move because of his job and they were never coming back
She wanted to talk to him before they left but their ride to the airport was already there
He would reach her home the next morning and wonder why it was bare
“You promised we’d always be together. Kaori, where in the world are you”
“Oh Yusuke, I wish you knew that I didn’t want to go and there was nothing I could do”
He was crying as he slowly walked home thinking thoughts that would torture his soul
She was crying as her plane slowly took off wishing they’d meet again and be whole

Lunch with Friends Set 7 / Post-post-post B-day Treat (August 25, 2008)
lunch with kache at heaven 'n eggs in trinoma. =) post-post-post bday treat ko sa kanya. she was the first person to greet me on my bday. =) kache is the number one fan of my poetry. =) i asked her once if she read poetry and she's been a fan ever since. =) sobrang excited siya parati pag sinasabi kong may upcoming poem ako. =) player ko rin siya sa eng'g var women's bball team and she's got a sweet 3 pt. shot. =) makulit siya, pano ba naman binigyan ako ng deadline for my latest poem. dapat daw by today finished na. hehehehe. =P umabot naman ako sa deadline. =P after lunch we went to timezone where we shot some hoops, played drums and guitar freaks. nakakahiya nga ako dun sa drum mania e. si kache kasi puro A yung rank ako D, E and E. hehehe. =P galing din nya sa guitar freaks. naka-119 combo ba naman. =) to culminate the day we had mcflurry fron mcdo (dairy queen sana kaso ang daming tao). next time videoke naman (dun ako babawi). hehehehe. =)

Dinner with Friends Set 1 (July 16, 2008)
our long awaited dinner. =P finally nagtugma din sked naming dalawa. we had dinner at california pizza kitchen in shangri-la, though the pic was taken in her condo in city land shaw. the last time we went out was august 2006 (i think), so nearly 2 years din. we had a lot of catching up to do. =) cherry has been a close friend of mine since our comm 3 days in UP (that was in 2001, so we've been friends for 7 years). only 2 people have met her, one is berna and the other is lester. grabe, i missed the late night talks we had back in college, so i was really excited to be able to rekindle our friendship once again. actually ayaw pa niya magpa-pic kasi daw stressed siya. hehehehe. =P

HAPPENSTANCE
He happened to glance to his left and he saw a vision of beauty, a rare gem
She had long black hair, eyes where you’d lose yourself once you gazed into them
She had the cutest lips and a smile that could melt your heart
Yet he was a stranger to her and that probably was the hardest part
That was the first time he saw her as she got on the train
On the third time he saw her; he decided to ask for her name
“Excuse…me miss, I…wondering if…could get…name” he said stuttering
“I’m Jessica” she said while finding him cute amidst his stammering
It all started from there; their journey on the long winding road
He would wait while she got on; she would look for him in the crowd
They would talk till she got off; they looked forward to the next meeting
Both wanted to reach the next level, but they weren’t sure what the other was thinking
“Tomorrow’s my birthday. Would you like to join me for dinner?”
“I would love to. What gift do you want?” he said almost overeager
“No gift. You being there is enough for me” she said with the utmost care
“Then look for me immediately when you get on. No matter what, I will be there”
July 21st; it was now her birthday and she wanted to tell him that she liked him a lot
She got on the train and immediately looked for his usual spot
“Where is he? Is he sick? Did something happen to him”
As each unfamiliar face met her eyes, her heart was gripped by grim
The tears were about to fall down, when someone lightly touched her arm
“Excuse me, I think you dropped this” the voice said filled with charm
She looked behind her and the tears did fall, but they were of joy not sorrow
He was holding a bouquet of flowers whose colors where bright and mellow
“Happy birthday!” he said and she hugged him fiercely
“Did I worry you?” he said as he noticed her tears flowing freely
“I wanted to surprise you. That’s why I wasn’t in my usual place”
“I’m really sorry“ he said while he wiped away the tears from her face
“Don’t be. I’m crying because I’m happy” she said in all sincerity
“I’m really happy because no one has ever done something like this for me”
“I loved you the first time I saw you” he said while looking at her eyes
“That's why I did this, to prove my intentions are pure and are not born of lies”
They became a couple that day and are still an item up to this date
It wasn’t a storybook romance after that; like any relationship there was love and hate
Yet every year he found a way to surprise her to make even their fights worthwhile
Whether it was a simple gesture or a grand gift, he never failed to make her smile

MOMENTS
“Will you promise me that you’ll love me forever?” she asked him this
“I promise to love you until this day ends” he then gave her a kiss
“So, tomorrow you won’t love me anymore?” she said with a bit of irritation
“The future is uncertain; I’d rather live in the moment” he said with good intentions
“You’re evading my question; give me a plain answer, not a quote” she said quite angrily
“I won’t commit to something that I do not have control of” he said in all honesty
“So, that’s it then, as of now we are through being together” she then left fuming
He was unable to utter a reply; it was so sudden, but after a minute he started crying
They hung out by the seashore every Friday at 5pm as a sort of permanent date
They were a picture of perfection; it was like they were joined by fate
Her head was on his lap while he gently strokes her hair
Letting the world pass them by with nary a care
All of these ended today, with him unable to explain the reason for what he said
He stood up and went on his way, while her last words kept echoing in his head
She stopped by a bench near the bus stop to gather herself for a while
Then it finally hit her; they were over and the tears fell for quite some time
There was no communication between them until Thursday night came by
He asked her to meet him tomorrow at their hangout; she decided to give it a try
The day opened with the sun shining brightly; a portent of good things to come
She didn’t know how she felt about seeing him again; she couldn’t stay calm
She was quite anxious, so she got there a bit early; it was still five minutes till five
She sat there while the sun prepared to set; it was now 5:15pm and he has yet to arrive
Worried, she called his house, but the line was busy; she decided to visit him
She arrived at his house around 6:30pm; there were lots of people all looking sad and grim
His mom was the first to notice her at the gate and solemnly ushered her inside
She noticed that his mother’s eyes were red streaked and misty, signs of how hard she cried
She was led to living room; she stood still for a casket was there
She realized their fight was stupid and the tears ran down; her emotions were laid bare
“He passed away this morning. He had a smile on his face” his mother said haltingly
“Why did he die? We were supposed to…..” she said distressfully
“He was diagnosed with a rare illness last year and had a few months to live”
“I didn’t know that. He never told me” she said feeling a bit deceived
“He left this letter for you. May be it will explain everything”
She accepted it while having a hard time accepting things and believing

The day opened with the sun shining brightly; a portent of good things to come
She didn’t know how she felt about seeing him again; she couldn’t stay calm
She was quite anxious, so she got there a bit early; it was still five minutes till five
She sat there while the sun prepared to set; it was now 5:15pm and he has yet to arrive
Worried, she called his house, but the line was busy; she decided to visit him
She arrived at his house around 6:30pm; there were lots of people all looking sad and grim
His mom was the first to notice her at the gate and solemnly ushered her inside
She noticed that his mother’s eyes were red streaked and misty, signs of how hard she cried
She was led to living room; she stood still for a casket was there
She realized their fight was stupid and the tears ran down; her emotions were laid bare
“He passed away this morning. He had a smile on his face” his mother said haltingly
“Why did he die? We were supposed to…..” she said distressfully
“He was diagnosed with a rare illness last year and had a few months to live”
“I didn’t know that. He never told me” she said feeling a bit deceived
“He left this letter for you. May be it will explain everything”
She accepted it while having a hard time accepting things and believing
It took her quite a bit to finish reading for her tears kept misting up her eyes
She then understood what he meant by living in the moment; she wiped her tears and smiled

THE TEST
“I want to be your friend”, she told me this
I asked her, “Are you really sure? May be something’s amiss?”
“You wouldn’t like who I am beneath this façade of mine”
“I don’t care! I believe everything will turn out fine”
“Ok, then. But let me ask you one more thing.”
“Are you prepared to journey to the core of my being?”
Without a moment’s hesitation she said, “Yes”
So it begins now, her journey, her quest.
I showed her my mind; she found herself confronted by a maze
At times the path seemed easy, at times they left her in a daze
Amidst the choking and tripping vines, she still persevered
Assailed by phantoms and almost drowning in a quagmire, she showed no fear
Despite the confusing twists and turns, still she ventured forth
All the while believing that she will find something of worth
After countless hours, she found the maze’s end; she found a guy strapped to a hospital bed
One minute he was ranting like a lunatic; one minute he was quiet as the dead
I then showed her my heart; she saw a convergence of darkness and light
Infinite scenarios entered her mind; some eased her mind, some gave her fright
She saw visions of me ascending in goodness; she saw me as the ultimate evil
Finally it ended and she stood up weakly, for it had almost broken her will
“You’ve seen my faults and weaknesses; do you still want my friendship?”
“I still do; the good and the bad are included in a budding relationship”
“There will be times when I will fail you; there will be times I’m not there”
“It won’t matter to me; I’ll forgive you; you’ll see how much I care”
“So be it, we’ll be friends from now till the day we grow old”
“I know we’ll last that long; as if this was our destiny foretold”
“I hope that I won’t make you regret your choice”
“I know you won’t; just listen to the sureness in my voice”
I awoke with a start, I was on my bed; it was all just a dream
Yet I can remember her face so clearly; I won’t ever forget it so it seemed
Still a bit shaken up, I went to class reluctant and dismayed
Still wrapped up in my thoughts, I didn’t know we had a new classmate that day
It was not until she sat beside me that I snapped out of my contemplation
I glanced at her and almost fell out of my chair from the sudden realization
She was the girl from my dream; here as real as can be
I said, “Hi” then I smiled at her; she said, “Hello” then she smiled back at me

nhiza and i had lunch at wham burgers at the block. we weren't as close before, but thanks to multiply and ym we are closer now. =) i usually asked her comments on my recent poems that i posted. we talked during lunch then walked around sm after (browsing through stores). oh, yeah, almost forgot, there was a cute baby near us at wham, and he kept smiling at nhiza the whole time. =)

i had lunch with len at max's at robinson's pioneer (my treat, of course). few people know that we were close during her last sem in UP. we had a lot of catching up to do. the last time we met was way back March 2003, i think. we talked about a lot of stuff kaya isang pic lang ang nakuha. hehehe. sobrang busy nga siya nowadays e, buti nga nakasingit ako sa sked niya. hehehe. =P

grabe! last time na nagkita kami ni steph, september 2006 pa. we had a lot of catching up to do, mainly on my part. =) she treated me to chef d' angelo. sabi ko treat ko e, pero late daw kasi siya kaya treat niya. sabi ko ok lang yun, kasi kung di siya na-late, di ko nakita yung harbound book sa national na 50 pesos lang. =)
we had 4 cheese pizza, buffalo wings and cheesy fries.

Of Love, Life and Other Matters....
Have you ever heard of this quote?
"Life's greatest illusion is that we are alone. We aren't. We are connected to people we have met and have yet to meet. The links may be hard to see, but they are there nonetheless. So, reach out and don't be surprised when someone reaches back."
No? Probably because I was the one who created it. For a time, I felt so alone (this coincided with the breakup, almost 2 years ago). I was unable to realize that I never was, that there were people reaching out to me and trying their best to support me. There was a reason for this, I was emotionally immature for quite sometime because I was emotionally sheltered by her. It wasn't until the latter part of last year for me to grow up and realize that there are things I had no control over.
I also realized that there were a lot of people that I used to spend a lot of time with previously, but for one reason or another I haven't been with them for quite some time. That's why I'm reaching out to the people who matter in my life. Rekindling friendships that have been stagnant for some time (This coincides with the photo sets I'm creating entitled "Lunch with Friends").
As for love, I'm patiently waiting for her answer. I'm not in any hurry right now.
As for life, I'm enjoying it right now. I'm taking things as they are.

I know we ended a year and a half ago...
I also know we were for six and a half years...
Can't there be a silver lining to this sad ending...
Is it too much to ask for friendship?
I've tried reaching out...
Yet they fell of deaf ears...
I just don't want the years to go down the drain...
Can't you at least give me this?
Am I asking too much?
